Regé-Jean Page Shares Why He Really Exited Bridgerton
Regé-Jean Page has done a lot of explaining when it comes to his departure from Bridgerton.
And well over a year after Regé-Jean announced he wouldn’t be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings, he’s still trying to justify not returning for Season 2.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Regé-Jean was asked if the reason he left was because he didn’t want to be “pigeonholed” — and he says the whole thing was “much simpler than that.”
“I signed up to do a job and I did the job and then I did some other jobs,” Regé-Jean explained.
He continued, “That’s it. That’s the story. I wish it was more glamorous than that.”
Regé-Jean added that moving on with the series was never something he signed on for from the start.
“[After] we finished the story, the temptation would be to roll with the distractions and go, ‘Oh, well, the story went really well so we can kind of change this up and make some other stuff up, I guess,'” Regé-Jean said. “That was never what we’d signed up to do.”
Although fans clearly miss having Regé-Jean on the show, he’s definitely been keeping busy since his depature.
He hosted Saturday Night Live, was in the Netflix thriller, The Gray Man, and can be seen in Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons when it premieres next month.
