Why Keanu Reeves movies are being discontinued in China

The actor has shown his solidarity with Tibet, and China has made the decision to delete all the artist’s projects.

It’s no secret that one of the biggest problems China is dealing with is its 50-year occupation of Tibet.  Keanu Reeves is not afraid of anything  and has publicly shown his solidarity with Tibetan culture by attending a concert held via Tibet House (a non-profit association founded in 1987 whose objective is precisely to protect this type of culture) along with  Iggy Pop  or  Patti Smith . That generated a great fire in social networks since the actor launched comments on social networks that China was not exactly like.

This has caused all the actor’s films to be removed and banned from the streaming platforms available in that area. In other words, in  iQiyi, Tencent Video, Bilibili, Xiga Video, Youku, or Migu Video , you cannot see any Reeves project, causing Matrix Resurrections to have still a much worse fate than it originally had.

Reeves stays out of China.

The funniest thing of all is that if you search for the same actor’s name on iQiyi, the following message appears: “Sorry, no results were found related to Keanu Reeves . Due to applicable laws, regulations, and policies,  some results may not be found.” are displayed  .”

Matrix Resurrections  was an absolute flop around the world. Lana  Wachowski ‘s feature film remained a rare bird in the saga, serving as an independent experiment in a trilogy that was released in the right time celluloid industry.  John Wick 4 , for its part, will be released in 2023 after a delay, so it remains to be seen what happens within this time and if the film can finally be seen in China.

Also, remember that Keanu Reeves will become Batman in the  DC feature film League of Superpets .

This coincided with the release of his latest film, The Matrix Resurrection, in China. It became the first blockbuster to hit Chinese theaters in over two months. However, Reeves took part in the concert, which was held online due to pandemic restrictions. This caused even more criticism on the network. The removal of the films followed.

China has ruled the remote western region since 1951 after its People’s Liberation Army entered and took control of the region. The 14th Dalai Lama left Tibet in 1959 and has lived in India ever since.

Beijing accuses the Dalai Lama of inciting separatism in the Tibetan region. Instead, the current Panchen Lama, approved by the Communist Party of China, is recognized as the highest religious figure in Tibet.
