Cinedigm is poised to release horror documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story on both Screambox and Digital June 6, 2023. Shot over the course of two years, Gary Smart (Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser) and Christopher Griffiths’ (Pennywise: The Story of It) documentary looks at the life and career of horror mainstay Robert Englund. Check out the synopsis below:
A classically trained actor and director, Robert Englund has become one of the most revolutionary horror icons of our generation. Throughout his career, Englund starred in many well-known movies, but shot to super-stardom with his portrayal of supernatural serial killer Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. This unique and intimate portrait captures the man behind the glove and features interviews with Englund and his wife Nancy, Lin Shaye, Eli Roth, Tony Todd, Heather Langenkamp and more.
Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story features several noteworthy interviews with Englund himself and his collaborators, including Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Lin Shaye (Insidious), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood), and Tony Todd (Candyman). The documentary is said to follow Englund’s cinematic career, tracking his early trajectory in the likes of Buster and Billie to his breakout role as nightmare killer Freddy Krueger in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Fans today might recognize Englund from his brief yet critical role in the fourth season of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, a season that undoubtedly owes a great deal to both Englund and the Nightmare on Elm Street mythos overall. The documentary is yet another win for Screambox TV whose recent releases, including the Japanese remake of Cube, have positioned the streamer as a must-have for horror fans everywhere.
