Doctor Who vet Peter Capaldi and The Good Fight star Cush Jumbo have been tapped for the leading roles in Apple TV+’s forthcoming crime thriller series titled Criminal Record, which is currently in production. This project marks the second collaboration between Capaldi and Jumbo after working together on the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.
Criminal Record is an eight-episode character-driven thriller that hails from BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman. Capaldi is portraying the role of Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegart, while Jumbo will be playing Detective Sergeant June Lenker.
“It is a powerful, character-driven thriller set in the heart of contemporary London,” reads the synopsis. “An anonymous phone call draws two brilliant detectives into a confrontation over an old murder case, one a young woman in the early stages of her career; the other a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy. The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure, and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain.”
Criminal Record is produced for Apple TV+ by Tod Productions and STV Studios. Executive producers are Paul Rutman, Elaine Collins, Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo, with Jim Loach directing the series.
