During a recent event at the Marunouchi Toei movie theater for the film, the company announced that the film has already earned over 8 billion yen (~$58.9 million) at the Japanese box office (via Anime News Network), and sold over 5.7 million tickets in its short time in theaters. With the film only barely having been in theaters for just two weeks, it has also already become the highest-selling and highest-earning film in the franchise’s history, both in terms of tickets sold and box office revenue generated.

The film has also been outperforming the entirety of other films in the Japanese box office, with the movie staying at the top spot during its opening weekend and earning 2.254 billion yen (~$16.7 million) in the box office with 1.58 million tickets sold in its first two days.

One Piece Film: Red is already outpacing its predecessor, One Piece Stampede, as the film earned 78% more in its first two days than Stampede did in its first three days, even with One Piece Film: Red opening a day later than Stampede did.

“Uta — the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as ‘otherworldly,’” reads the official synopsis for the film. “Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans — excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance — the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.”
