A video game based on the Overlord anime series has been officially announced and will launch on PC and Nintendo Switch next year.

Overlord: Escape from Nazarick is a 2D action-adventure game that’s set in the world of the epic dark fantasy series. The game features an original story that is overseen by Kugane Maruyama, the creator of Overlord.
“Clementine wakes to find herself imprisoned in the Great Tomb of Nazarick by none other than the Supreme Being, Ainz Ooal Gown, who forces her to participate in his brutal experiments,” says the Steam page of the story. “Bereft of her favorite weapons and a good chunk of her memories, Clementine must defeat all of Ainz’s most formidable servants as she claws her way to freedom. The search for the exit begins now.”

Players will attempt to regain Clementine’s memories that are hidden throughout the Metroidvania in order to “unravel the many mysteries surrounding Clementine’s current predicament.” Since she’s suffering from amnesia, players will unlock new abilities over time and her move set starts off limited. Overlord: Escape from Nazarick has no official release date as of yet but is set to launch sometime in 2022.

Overlord premiered in 2015 and is adapted from Kugane Maruyama’s popular light novel that features art from artist so-bin. The series takes place in the year 2126 and focuses on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game called YGGDRASIL. As the servers are shut down, the strongest player in the game, Momonga, stays logged in and gets transported to a different reality. Non-playable characters gain sentience and Momonga uses his ridiculous power to figure out what happened while also looking for anyone else from the real world.
The full Overlord anime, including the first three seasons and two films (which are recaps rather than theatrical releases), is available now on Funimation both in subbed and dubbed forms. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll has access to the first three seasons subbed, while the first season’s dub can also be watched on Hulu.
