Tom Brady Unretires: NFL Stars & Fans React to Stunning

Just six weeks after announcing his retirement, NFL great Tom Brady has revealed that he will be coming back for his 23rd season.

The 44-year-old quarterback said he was hanging up his boots last month after a record-breaking seven Super Bowl wins. But Brady took to social media on Sunday to announce that he has “unfinished business” and will be rejoining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“These past two months I’ve realised my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” he tweeted. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa.”

The shocking u-turn had social media buzzing, with the football world and Brady fans sharing their reaction to the news. Brady’s fellow Bucs teammates were especially excited about the development.

“LFG!!! Just unreal,” tweeted offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, a sentiment shared by his fellow players Mike Evans, Mike Edwards, and Chris Godwin.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who was the victim of Brady’s last-ever touchdown, was pleased to see that stat scratched from his record. “THANK YOU throw that last touchdown on somebody else,” he wrote alongside the laughing face emoji.

Brady’s quick turnaround was also ripe for humor, as many people chipped in to poke fun at the situation. This included comedian Ziwe, who tweeted, “Tom Brady faking his retirement to hear all the nice things people have to say about him is big leo energy.”

“Damn, even Tom Brady saw 7.9% inflation and record-high gas prices and decided he needed to go back to work,” added Huddle Up founder Joe Pompliano.

“Tom Brady sat in the pickup line at school for six weeks and said nah I’d rather let Aaron Donand piledrive me into the earth than go out like this,” commented one fan.

Brady was selected by the New England Patriots as the 199th pick of the 2000 draft. He would help lead the team to six Super Bowl victories. In 2020, he left the Patriots for the Bucs, leading them to their second Super Bowl win. Brady was named the game’s Most Valuable Player for a fifth time.
