American Football members and cousins Mike Kinsella and Nate Kinsella have formed a new band called Lies. They’re announcing the project with Lies I, a two-track release featuring the new songs “Blemishes” and “Echoes.” Listen to those below.
Lies are encouraging listeners to call the “Lies hotline” at 1-888-290-LIES (5437) or visit their website to learn more about the project. At the top of the band’s website are five roman numerals, potentially suggesting that five possible releases are planned.
In December, American Football shared shared a new song titled “Rare Symmetry” and a cover of Mazzy Star’s classic “Fade Into You,” featuring guests vocals from Miya Folick. Their most recent records, a third full-length album titled American Football (LP3) and the newly remastered demo collection Year One Demos, came out in 2019.
In 2020, Mike Kinsella released The Avalanche, his 10th album under his Owen moniker. The following year, he put out a remix version of the LP featuring alternate versions of the songs by Jay Som, Nnamdï, and Now, Now, among others.
