The V/H/S/ franchise must really love the heck out of the 90s. Their last film was set in 94 and now this follows up heads to 99 with V/H/S/99. The first film in the franchise came out in 2012 and has released films pretty consistently over the years ever since.
This time around the film will feature features by Maggie Levin, Johannes Roberts, Flying Lotus, Tyler MacIntyre and Vanessa and Joseph Winter. The V/H/S/ films have always done a great job of focusing on great indie directors and writers. The first films featured directors like Ti West, Adam Wingard and more.
The description for V/H/S/99 goes like this:
“V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. In V/H/S/99, a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.“
“V/H/S/94 set a new bar for what is already a fantastic film franchise, featuring some of the best horror anthology segments in recent memory by an incredible lineup of filmmakers,” said Craig Engler, GM of Shudder. “We knew immediately that we wanted to continue the series, and what the producers have come up with in V/H/S/99 will be the biggest and best film yet in the series, and we can’t wait for Shudder members to see it.”
The second film in the franchise remains an all-time stand-out for me personally.
V/H/S/99 arrives on Shudder beginning October 20.
