Go horror! Go horror! Go horror! We find ourselves rooting for horror more and more in a post-COVID strange box office world. We were just beyond excited and proud of Jordan Peele’s Nope box office dollars. Now, a strange bit of a strange record. A24’s whodunit, Bodies, Bodies, Bodies did extraordinary despite the film opening on limited screens.
Deadline reports Bodies, Bodies, Bodies grossed $226,526 despite it only opening on six screens in LA and NY. Perhaps due to its major popularity, the film opens to 1200 screens next weekend.
Deadline breaks down the weekend box-office numbers to Friday – $94,762; Saturday – $71,224 and Sunday – $60,540.
The synopsis for Bodies, Bodies, Bodies goes like this:
When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game goes awry in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.
Trending‘Teen Wolf’ Spin-Off to Star Sarah Michelle Gellar on Paramount+
A24′ Everything Everywhere All At Once opened with similar success last spring. It managed to make half-a-million dollars despite it only initially opening on 10-screens.
It is a slasher in a very unusual placement in its release date. But, I have a feeling that the ever-popular Pete Davidson has a lot to do with the film’s success. The former SNL cast member just so happned to have a very popular split from Kim Kardashian. I swear, it must be in his contracts to have big public display breakups right around the time of his film’s release. Because you cannot beat this kind of press. I’m probably wrong, but it makes you think!
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies is currently in select theaters with the film opening on many more screens this weekend for what will probably yield a large box office take.
