It’s September, and you know what that means. There’s crisp air, crunchy leaves are starting to gather, and the sound of that school bell can be heard ringing all over the world. And sure, maybe there’s a suspicious station wagon parked across the street as you stare out of your English class window, wondering if you have a long-lost uncle you should be worrying about. General back-to-school energy.

To help you settle back into the fuss of classes, notebooks, pens, and yearbooks, Dread Central’s own podcast Girl, That’s Scary is prepping a terrifying curriculum to keep your brain active and cozy as we head deep into the pumpkin spice season. And who better to take you back to school than co-hosts Jazz and Kat? These horror aficionados are also educators, so they know a thing or two about schooltime scares.

“September means that a new school year is afoot and spooky season is following right up. It’s one of the most festive (and a personal fav) times of the year!” says GTS co-host Kat. “Heading to school for the first time can be a fun, exciting, and possibly spooky time. Chase those fears away by diving into a horror flick or two.” The Dread Podcast Network host continued by sharing, “I love when school is back in session. I get to work at a place that is sprinkled with people who love horror the genre. We get to serve our community daily and connect over spooky content in our spare time.”

Jazz also got into the mix, adding “it’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s time for new locker combinations and the smell of spooky season. As an educator and horror fan, the beginning of September fuels me with excitement and promise. Horror often finds a home in the school setting because we are often following young folks battling some form of evil, while simultaneously trying to pass Algebra 2. Sorry to say, if there’s a zombie apocalypse, I’d be failing math.”

Some of the topics covered in the Girl, That’s Scary back-to-school curriculum include Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), The Faculty, Jennifer’s Body and lots more. So don’t be sad summer’s over, be glad Halloween is en route and get into the school spirit with Kat and Jazz!

The Girl, That’s Scary: Back to School mini-series has already begun and runs all September long! Subscribe to their podcast anywhere you listen.
