Robert Eggers is one of those directors we keep flooding back to. His work on The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman have all been spectacular. His next film is the long-gestating, long-dreamed-of, Nosferatu. The Eggers-directed feature will stars both Bill Skarsgard (It) and Lily-Rose Depp (Yoga Hosers).
At one point Anya Taylor Joy was attached to play the Lily-Rose Depp role. But, time and schedules didn’t allow. The Focus Features Nosferatu will be produced by Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Robert Eggers, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus.
“In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him. Focus had no comment on the project.” Deadline reports.
The original F.W. Murnau Nosferatu’s synopsis went like this:
In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen (Greta Schroeder). After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock (Alexander Granach), prepares for his master to arrive at his new home.
We can’t wait to see what Eggers brings to this. Skarsgard is a perfect pick to play Count Orlok.
We will be sure to keep you updated on future Nosferatu news.
