Ari Aster has given us some absolute bangers when it comes to unsettling terror. His last film, Midsommar was a bad trip during the brightest hours of the day. A personal film that shook audiences from the inside out. Now, Aster’s next work, Beau is Afraid sees its second poster as well as a brief synopsis and direction of the new film.
We are looking forward to a full trailer for Beau is Afraid which is set to premiere on January 10.
The film is described as, “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.” a film that is perfectly in line with Aster’s sense of humor and anxieties.
Beau is Afraid stars Joaquin Phoenix, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Denis Ménochet, Hayley Squires, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones, Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, and Kylie Rogers.
The synopsis for Midsommar broke down like this:
A couple travel to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
Aster’s Beau is Afraid is based on his 2011 short film, Beau. In that film, its protagonist has his keys stolen from his door. The film then becomes an ever-escalating chain of terrifying events that absolutely haunts Beau.
The latest poster reveals Phoenix at different ages over a few generations. The initial poster only featured a young Phoenix the addition of the character at different ages reveals a possibility that the terror is following Beau throughout his life.
