Christmas has come early in the form of Alice Maio Mackay announcing her fifth film via Fangoria, which is set to be a queer Christmas horror! The film doesn’t have a title yet and is currently crowd-funding on Indiegogo.
Read the full synopsis:
When true-crime podcaster and sleuth Lola visits her hometown at Christmas for the first time since running away and transitioning, the vengeful ghost of a historical murderer and urban legend seemingly arises to kill again. Lola must solve the case before her community is slaughtered. She’s up against not only a psychotic killer, but a town haunted by secrets.
Alice Maio Mackay said of her latest film, “I am so excited to be working on my fifth feature—my biggest project yet. With such a fantastic team and cast lined up, I can’t wait to start filming. My new film continues to showcase trans representation both in front and behind the camera, which is especially important in today’s political climate. But it also doesn’t hold back on the horror—putting a completely new spin on some of your familiar urban legends and Christmas hauntings. We can’t wait to share it with you!”
Trans actor and model Jeremy Moineau stars in the film alongside Joe Romeo (Awoken, Firebite), Dominique Booth (Boogeyman Pop), Cassie Hamilton, Toshiro Glenn (Bad Girl Boogey), and Olivia Deeble (More Than This, Secret Society of Second-Born Royals).
Maio Mackay co-wrote the film’s script with writing partner Ben Pahl Robinson. Aaron Schuppan, who has lensed all of Maio Mackay’s previous films, will serve as cinematographer. Production is scheduled to begin in August.
At just 18, Maio Mackay continues to kill it, pun intended, with four films already under her proverbial belt. From tackling vampires in So Vam to gooey body horror in T Blockers (which premiered at Salem Horror Fest), she has a keen eye for horror and a strong directorial style. If you have yet to watch one of her films, So Vam is streaming now on Shudder.
Maio Mackay’s project is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo.
