A comedy starring Chris Rock is the crown jewel of the Paramount Plus schedule for May 22-28.
On Sunday, May 28, Paramount Plus will add Top Five to its available content. Written and directed by appreciated comedian Rock, the story follows a successful comedian and movie star who grapples with his career, personal life, and the desire to be taken seriously as a dramatic actor after being ravaged by a New York Times critic. Everyone seems to want a piece of the comedian, but he unexpectedly teams up with a journalist to make a documentary about the Haitian revolution.
Top Five premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. It received critical acclaim for its sharp humor, insightful commentary on the entertainment industry, and Rock’s standout performance. Its theatrical run started on December 12, 2014, and ended up with $26 million at the box office. Rock made his directorial debut with 2003’s Head of State, followed by 2007’s I Think I Love My Wife, but it was only thanks to Top Five that he got some critical recognition for his work as a director. Ironically, it is also the latest movie Rock directed to date, focusing instead on his acting and comedian career.
Top Five stars an ensemble cast that features Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union, Cedric the Entertainer, J. B. Smoove, Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart, Anders Holm, Jay Pharoah, Michael Che, Sherri Shepherd, and Leslie Jones, among many others.
