Best stock up on tissues to catch your happy tears; more Heartstopper is on the way. The tender coming-of-age dramedy won hearts around the world after it premiered on Netflix last spring, and the series was promptly renewed for a second (and third) season only a month after its debut. Based on the popular graphic novel and webcomic of the same name by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper has plenty of material to draw from as it grows into its role as a Netflix stalwart. Here’s what devoted fans can expect from season 2.
When is Heartstopper season 2 coming out?
Netflix announced that Heartstopper season 2 was already in production in September 2022, mere months after the first season premiered. This year, we’ll finally see protagonists Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) together again as the eight-episode second season hits screens on Thursday, August 3.

Who is in the cast?
Netflix has already confirmed that the entire main cast of Heartstopper will return for season 2, including Connor and Locke. Other returning actors include: William Gao, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Rhea Norwood, Olivia Colman (as Nick’s mother, Sarah), Jenny Walser, and Yasmin Finney.
Several new cast members will also join the ranks for season 2: Actor Jack Barton will play Nick’s older brother, David Nelson; Nima Taleghani will arrive as Mr. Farouk, a new schoolteacher; and Bradley Riches, who was relegated to the background in season 1, has been announced in the role of James McEwan. The character Sahar Zahid was cast after an open call, with newcomer Leila Khan ultimately landing the role.
Finally, in early November, Call My Agent! star Thibault de Montalembert joined the cast as Nick’s father, Stephane.
What will season 2 of Heartstopper be about?
Volumes 1 and 2 of the Heartstopper graphic novel series were covered in season 1, so season 2 will pick up with material adapted from Volume 3: Nick and Charlie will ease into the new normal of their romance and attend a trip to Paris with their classmates. Netflix’s official season 2 synopsis is as follows:
“Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.”
In the opening scene of season 2—first shared live during Netflix’s annual TUDUM event—Charlie and Nick exchange sweet good-morning texts and greet each other at school, thrilled by their new relationship.
TUDUM also revealed season 2’s full list of episode titles, which include:
- Episode 1: “Out”
- Episode 2: “Family”
- Episode 3: “Promise”
- Episode 4: “Challenge”
- Episode 5: “Heat”
- Episode 6: “Truth/Dare”
- Episode 7: “Sorry”
- Episode 8: “Perfect”
Will there be more seasons after this one?
Yes! Netflix greenlit both seasons 2 and 3 in May 2022. “We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!” Oseman said at the time.
