- Plus, she teases how the Wolfsbane Chalice twist could impact the coven.
Eternally Yours pulled the curtain back on the coven’s approach to Halloween in the latest episode, but it also made way for a grand romantic gesture on Charles’s (Ed Weeks) part as he went against his own comfort to help his wife Liz (Allegra Edwards). Warning: Spoilers for Eternally Yours Season 1 Episode 4 ahead!
When Liz learned that she was up for a permanent professorship, she invited her boss Glen (Nelson Franklin) and his wife Susan (Nadine Djoury) to spend Halloween at her home while the latter couple’s kids trick-or-treated in the neighborhood. The problem? Liz invited Glen without telling Charles, who was powerless to turn the guests away when they rang the doorbell.
Liz was eager to secure the job, which was something Charles didn’t understand, especially with his nihilistic view of vampire life. But as Edwards tells TV Insider, “It’s really important to remember for Liz and Emma that the concept of having a job, in general, is a fairly recent thing for their lifetimes, especially a job where you are in a position of authority holding court over a classroom.”

“This is a really exciting and fulfilling thing for Liz, knowing that most of her 500 years was probably spent doing other things like domestic work. She may have been waited on hand and foot and impossibly bored,” Edwards continues. “So her excitement about it is stemming from hundreds of years of waiting in the wings as a professional and as someone who can contribute something meaningful to the world.”
While Charles wondered what the point was to pursuing the professorship, Liz, Edwards says, “is finding a way to reinvent herself knowing she might have an eternity to continue reinventing herself.”
Initially, Charles sat down to appease Liz, but when Glen brought up the Prussians and made a defense for their history, that was when the cordiality evaporated — and the fact that Glen and Susan showed up dressed as vampires. “It’s death by a thousand paper cuts, right?” Edwards says of the elements that built to Charles’s eruption.
“All of it is adding up, but I think the tipping point is definitely being an expert on something historical that is revisionist history, according to Charles. He’s got this strange obsession with hating on the Prussian people, which I’m hoping we unpack in a flashback,” Edwards notes. “He’s muzzled by the fact that it would give us away. So it’s an incredibly frustrating position that he’s in. The heat is cranked up on the kettle until he can’t help but squeal.”
Despite the fact that Charles ridiculed Glen’s findings on the Prussians and essentially drove them out of the home, when he learned how deeply Liz felt about the situation, she was startled to find the human couple back at their door after they were chased by a bat. The bat was Charles, who salvaged the night with a few errant twigs in his hair after his mad dash.
“That is the pinnacle of sacrifice because it’s truly putting his ego aside, and Liz understands how much that means to her and how costly that is for him,” Edwards says of Charles’ grand gesture for Liz.
While the couple made up as the closing scene revealed a morning-after flirtation, the good feelings disappeared when they learned that Phyllis (Rose Abdoo) had placed the Wolfsbane Chalice, a means of warding off werewolves, in the dishwasher, which broke the relic and left the coven defenseless.
As for what that means going forward, Edwards shares, “We’ve definitely established that every vampire piece of media has its own lore about who their enemies are and what exists and what doesn’t. And so we’ve put a pretty firm flag in the ground that werewolves are real. They do exist in our world, and we should beware of them.”
