The Onslaught trailer landed this week and the horror internet had a very specific reaction within about thirty seconds.
Jason Voorhees. Wrong franchise, right energy.
What Is Onslaught?

Adria Arjona plays an Army sniper. Genetically engineered super soldiers have escaped from a secret military base. Her daughter is in the way. That covers the premise without losing anything important.
Adam Wingard directed it from a script he and Simon Barrett wrote together. A24 opens it September 4, 2026. The cast also includes Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnson, Eric Wareheim, Drew Starkey, and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira, whose presence in a horror film raises exactly as many questions as you think it does.
Why Everyone Is Seeing Jason

The soldiers wear dark masks with a silhouette that Friday the 13th Part 3 permanently claimed in 1982. Horror fans have had that shape indexed somewhere in their brains since they were eleven years old, and you do not put it on your villain without knowing exactly what you are invoking.
They also do not go down. Rounds of ammunition land and the soldiers continue to have a perfectly fine morning about it. Bloody Disgusting called it “Sarah Connor versus Jason Voorhees.” Three months before release and that description is already doing the work of an entire marketing department.

The violence does not clean itself up. Not the kind where things explode neatly and people fall over on cue. The camera stays, the sound design works hard, and Adria Arjona looks like someone who has accepted that this week is going to be deeply unpleasant and has made her peace with it.
Rebecca Hall is here too. The film clearly has more going on than pure carnage.
Probably.
