Artificial intelligence is making its way into Spanish-language news with Entravision AHORA, which is set to introduce AI anchor LIA alongside its human correspondents. Short for Latina Inteligencia Artificial, LIA will provide real-time information, data, and additional context during live broadcasts. The new AI personality is designed to complement the platform’s journalists.
Entravision AHORA to use AI personality LIA alongside human anchors
Entravision AHORA is set to bring an AI personality into its Spanish-language news coverage, with LIA appearing alongside the platform’s human anchors. LIA, whose name stands for Latina Inteligencia Artificial, has been developed as an on-screen companion that can provide viewers with additional information as stories unfold. The company says the AI personality will work alongside journalists rather than take their place.
During live coverage, LIA will be used to deliver supporting material such as real-time data, weather information, election results, visual presentations, explainers, and other relevant context. The technology will give viewers more information during a broadcast while keeping human anchors at the center of the news presentation.
The AI personality will be introduced with Entravision AHORA, a new national Spanish-language streaming news service launching on September 8. The platform is being created for U.S. Hispanic audiences. Its coverage will span breaking news, politics, immigration, the economy, public safety, health, weather, and sports, alongside stories concerning Latino communities across the country.
María Martínez-Guzmán, President of Entravision, said, “AHORA reflects Entravision’s continued commitment to serving Hispanic audiences with news that is relevant, trusted, and connected to their communities.” Arianna Requena, Vice President, Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives for Broadcast, highlighted, “Our vision for AHORA is to create a news platform that feels national while remaining deeply connected to the local communities we serve.”
The introduction of LIA follows Entravision’s earlier experiments with AI in its radio programming. The company previously launched an AI radio personality named Coyotec on José 97.5/107.1 KLYY in Los Angeles, where the character appeared alongside Geraldine “GeeGee” Guzman.
