AudioFile magazine has announced the return of its program that offers free audiobooks for teens. The AudiobookSYNC program — tailored toward making books accessible and free — is the perfect fix as book bans grow, the pandemic continues, and young people have less access to their school and local libraries.
The program will give readers access to 28 titles from authors like Rainbow Rowell, Alice Oseman, Langston Hughes and Lewis Carroll. SYNC supports teens in discovering new books, as well as engaging in the joys and benefits of audiobook listening.
“Once again, AudioFile Magazine is committed to connecting teens to audiobooks. In 2023, teens will have access to a new season of diverse and dynamic audiobooks,” says AudioFile Magazine founder Robin Whitten. “During the summer of 2022, SYNC participants received 90,000 copies of 32 titles. We look forward to celebrating more audiobooks reaching more teens in 2023.”
Here’s how it works:
From April 27, 2023 – August 2, 2023, participants across the world will be able to borrow two new audiobooks per week and keep those titles indefinitely. SYNC offers two thematically paired audiobooks available for check-out each week of the program — at no cost — to every registered listener.
Teens and others may register for the FREE program and sign up for email or text alerts at AudiobookSYNC. Any registered individual may participate by downloading the Sora app and following directions for using the AudiobookSYNC “school.”
The participants then use the app to move titles onto their personal audiobook shelf each week (titles roll over at midnight Eastern Time each Thursday). Thanks to the partnership with OverDrive Education, included titles will be available to move to the participant’s own Sora shelf and remain accessible to the registered user indefinitely within the app.
