Beyoncé Leads Female-Dominated Field Of Grammy Nominees

Beyoncé leads the female-dominated field with 11 nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, with Billie Eilish, Charli xcx, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone following close behind with seven and Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift racking up six each for the event, which will take place Feb. 2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Competition will be fierce amid the Big Four categories of Album, Record and Song of the Year as well as Best New Artist, with many of the same artists nominated for each. OutKast’s André 3000 and Jacob Collier are the only men nominated for Album of the Year alongside Beyoncé, Carpenter, Charli xcx, Eilish, Roan and Swift, while songs by Eilish, Swift and Post Malone, Roan, Carpenter and Beyoncé will vie for Song of the Year against those popularized by Shaboozey, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars and Lamar.

More from Spin:

Record of the Year is similarly populated by songs from Beyoncé, Carpenter, Charli xcx, Eilish, Lamar, Roan and Swift featuring Malone, with the Beatles’ technology-assisted final single “Now and Then” rounding out the category.

As usual, several acts nominated for Best New Artist have already been established in the industry for years, including Carpenter, whose debut studio album came out in 2015. Likewise, Khruangbin has been active since 2010, while RAYE’s first hit single came seven years ago. The category is rounded out by Benson Boone, Doechii, Roan, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims.

The names in the rock, metal and alternative categories are largely familiar faces alongside a handful of relative newcomers such as Fontaines D.C. and IDLES, both of which have been nominated in the past several years.

Pearl Jam’s Andrew Watt-produced Dark Matter will vie for Best Rock Album against another Watt production, the Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds, as well as the Black Crowes’ Happiness Bastards, Romance by Fontaines D.C., Saviors by Green Day, TANGK by IDLES and No Name by Jack White. Watt won the category in 2023 thanks to producing Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient Number 9.

The title track from the Pearl Jam album is up for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, giving the Eddie Vedder-led band their first Grammy nominations since Lightning Bolt won Best Recording Package in 2015. Meanwhile, “Now and Then,” will also compete in Best Rock Performance against songs from the Black Keys, Green Day, IDLES and St. Vincent.

The latter Annie Clark-led act has won Best Alternative Music Album twice previously, and will go for a third with All Born Screaming. The category is rounded out by Wild God from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Charm by Clairo, The Collective by Kim Gordon and What Now by Brittany Howard. Several of the exact same artists are nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance.

The Best Metal Performance Category includes veterans such as Judas Priest and Metallica, as well as upstarts such as Gojira, Knocked Loose and Spiritbox. Metallica won this year for the song “72 Seasons,” giving them their record-setting seventh victory in the category to date.
