Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is officially a Galia Lahav bride-to-be. Just one month after getting engaged to her partner, Houston Texans player Jonathan Owens, Biles posted that she secured not one but two wedding dresses from the iconic bridal brand, with one being the first design she tried on during her fitting. Lahav is renowned for using meticulous sewing techniques alongside fellow in-house designer Sharon Sever, and there are not many gowns that rival their couture work.
Biles, 25, and Owens, 27, have confirmed they’ll be tying the knot on the beach at a destination wedding in 2023, and they recently revealed the color scheme for the big day during a Q&A posted to the gymnast’s Instagram Stories. They’re opting for a gold, white, and champagne palette, so it’s safe to assume the decor, wedding party, and even some of the guests will follow that color scheme.
On July 7, Biles gave an update during an online interview with KPRC anchor Keith Garvin about the status of planning: “We have the dresses, the venue, and the date. We also have a wedding planner. We know the colors and the theme. We’re about to start working on bridesmaid dresses and his groomsmen, tuxes, or suits for Jonathan. We are ahead; we just sent our save-the-dates too. It’s for the people to give heads up. We got super-cute magnets.”
A month later, on Aug. 12, Biles revealed the handbag she plans to wear for bridal events. In an Instagram Story, she shared an image of the Prada satin mini bag with crystals alongside the caption, “Stop. For all my wedding festivities.” She added “Ily @jowens,” hinting that the stylish accessory may be a gift from her fiancé.
While we can’t be sure exactly what dress silhouette she chose for her walk down the aisle, the Galia Lahav team shared photos of Biles sifting through some options during her visit to the boutique, where staff celebrated her special moment by asking her to hold up a sign that read, “Officially a #GLBRIDE.”
Biles may have gone shopping in casual denim cutoffs teamed with white sneakers, but she’s had her fair share of red carpet triumphs that have more than prepared her to pull off something over the top. She memorably wore an 88-pound dress to the 2021 Met Gala, custom designed by Area and Athleta, and has embraced every trend from cutouts and high leg slits to flowing maxi dresses with confidence. Since Biles and Owens love to travel, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Galia Lahav team even incorporate custom details that speak to the destination the couple chose for their big day.
Ahead, look forward to Biles’s big reveal and enjoy photos from her fitting.
