SYNOPSIS:

Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.

REVIEW

Children of the Corn (2023) was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer (Ultraviolet, One Touch Bastard)

Children of the Corn (1984) was directed by Fritz Kiersch and based on the short story by Stephen King. The screenplay was written by George Goldsmith, and starring Peter Horton, John Franklin, Linda Hamilton, and R.G. Armstrong.

Then we had, Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1992). It was directed by David Price, and written by A L Katz, and Gilbert Adler, and based on the short story by Stephen King. Terence Knox, Paul Scherrer, Ryan Bollman, and Christie Clark.

They also made Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest, Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering (1996), Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998), Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return (1999).

Children of the Corn (2023) is a reboot. It is headed to theaters on March 3, 2023. (And On Demand and digital). The film opens with Eden Edwards (Kate Moyer) watching her brother, at least I think it is her brother. He was in the corn field, in the corn, and all the sudden it is a horrific Jim Jones situation.

I have a feeling Kate is going to become the Isaac or Malachai of the group. Boleyn Williams (Elena Kampouris) and her brother wind up out in the middle of the corn while Eden and her group of followers are getting in all sorts of trouble. Kate Moyer does an awesome job as Eden.

Boleyn or Bo and her brother Cecil Williams (Jayden McGinlay) seem to notice the death and disaster that surrounds the town they live in. The adults in the town hold a town meeting, Robert Williams (Callan Mulvey) is leading this town hall meeting of adults that just do not give a shit. They want the corn gone, and that is that.

There’s also Pastor Penny (Bruce Spence). Pastor Penny thinks the townspeople and the unnerving behavior is the reason for the mess. They did a good job with special effects, the creepy aspect of the supernatural corn fields. The movie moved forward slightly into the future with social media being added.

Bo tries to hold a trial to take back the corn and bring the dying community back to life. Calder Colvington (Joe Klocek) and his brother have some trouble with their parents but Eden’s taking this to another level. She wants to kill the adults, and feed the corn so to speak.

Eden has quite a following, she is most definitely the Isaac of the group. These kids understand all this horror and what their parents have done, and whether it’s just the supernatural evil the corn or the adults already knew the corn was poisonous and causing all this chaos.

It gets a tad bit more gruesome with some of the special effects kills. Bo is not as good at being a cult leading massacre as Eden is, yet she is still fighting. She mentions several times throughout the movie that she was taught to keep fighting. Did the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers invade the corn?!

Well, the reporter showed up, and it’s not going good for her. Eden finds the reporter Sheila Boyce (Anna Samson), and what a conundrum this woman is in. Let us discuss villains. Eden is “possessed” or overtaken by “He who walks” in the corn, you know, a supernatural corn field demon.

Eden is terrorizing everyone with the help of this supernatural entity. They turned it into a wild tall corn field being who walks around. Eden was traumatized by what she saw, and it took over her in a horrific way.

Bo is trying to save everyone but again, it’s not going so well for anyone. The corn field being monster is wild, its’ WILD, and such a devious looking creature. Bo gets the Nebraska Oldsmobile running but I am not sure if it is going to help her get out of here.

FINALLY! Bo has had enough of this shit. She entered her final girl moment. She is seen enough corn, enough violent kids, and she is soaked in gasoline. Eden is a real deal ballbuster of all the demonic, horrible movie kids. Eden is persistent, she is like Karen from Useless Farm, if you don’t know Useless Farm, check it out on social media.

This is life, this is trauma, and when you have had enough of people’s shit. Bo had enough. Children of the Corn (1984) is an iconic film. Kurt Wimmer did a good job with this.

Make sure to check out Children of the Corn (2023), and sleep well folks. Watch out for those corn fields.
