Third time’s the charm! Eva Longoria found a forever love with José “Pepe” Bastón after two previous marriages.
The Desperate Housewives alum wed General Hospital‘s Tyler Christopher in 2002, and the pair were married for two years before going their separate ways. She moved on with NBA athlete Tony Parker, who proposed in 2006.
Longoria and the former San Antonio Spurs star tied the knot in a civil service in Paris in July 2007, one day before hosting a Catholic wedding ceremony in the City of Love. By November 2010, however, the actress had filed for divorce. (Parker filed his own paperwork that same month citing “discord or conflict of personalities,” igniting a lengthy legal battle. Their divorce was finalized in January 2011.)
Bastón, meanwhile, had already crossed paths with his future wife before they began dating in 2013. The couple were introduced through mutual friends, but it took time for sparks to fly. Longoria even confessed that the businessman wasn’t too familiar with her career when they met.
“[He’s] like the only person in the world who hasn’t seen Desperate Housewives,” she teased on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in January 2016, one month after announcing the duo’s engagement. “He’s never known me as working. He’s like, ‘Oh, so you’re an actress?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m a pretty big deal in China. People see my show all over the world.’ … People come up to me all the time and he just doesn’t really get it. He’s like, ‘They really like you.’”
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum described Bastón as being “so private” that he barely wanted his face shown in the Instagram photo she used to announce their engagement. “He was like, ‘[Use] the one with the back of my head,’” she recalled.
The couple exchanged vows in a star-studded wedding ceremony four months later. In December 2017, Us Weekly confirmed that Longoria was pregnant with the pair’s first child. She gave birth to son Santiago Enrique the following June.
Following her highs and lows in love, the Devious Maids producer felt lucky to find a partner like Bastón. “I remember being so jealous [in past relationships] and your stomach is inside out. It’s the worst feeling,” she recalled on her “Connections with Eva Longoria” podcast in April 2022. “Why would anybody want that feeling?”
She continued: “I think that’s why, with my second marriage — no wait, my third — finding love at 40, I found [my husband] when I was 40 – and he was 50 – it was just like, ‘Can we just enjoy this life together?’ I mean, I do yell at him for [leaving out] the toothbrush or something like that, still.”
