Jennifer Aniston Reveals Post Friends Career Goal That Was Brushed off as Cute

After Friends ended in 2004, actress Jennifer Aniston wanted to have a new career as a producer. However, when she first mentioned the idea, her goal was dismissed. The reaction from the industry insiders is something that she remembers clearly. The award-winning star talked about it during Elle’s Women in Hollywood event on November 17.

Jennifer Aniston, who played the iconic Friends character Rachel Green, revealed that she wanted to try her hand at producing projects in Hollywood after the show ended. However, this was not taken positively by those who were already working in the industry.

She recalled, “The room got really, really quiet, and I got that look of ‘how cute you are’ and sort of a pat on the head and the air bubble above the head that says, ‘OK, let’s just wait a second, let’s put a pin in this for now.’”

Even though her ideas were met with skepticism, it did not stop her. She eventually started producing her first film in 2008 called Management. As for the experience while doing so, Aniston said, “I got to produce my first movie, and I can confirm, I love it,” she told the audience, adding plainly, “And I’m really good at it.”

Since Friends ended, Aniston has built a steady career as an actress, as well as a producer. She has worked on projects such as The Switch, Cake, Dumplin’, Murder Mystery, and The Friends reunion special. She is currently the executive on Apple TV for The Morning Show.

During her speech at the Elle event, Aniston also celebrated a broader shift in Hollywood. This has ended up opening doors for women across all creative roles. She also praised other women who have faced a similar situation but did not give up. The actress noted that her peers are now creating, directing, and producing even though it was not possible when she first raisedherhand.
