Apple TV’s new TV and movie releases for the week of October 5-11 include John Cena’s Matchbox and Ted Lasso: Season 4 finale.
Directed by Sam Hargrave, Matchbox: The Movie is an action-comedy film and is based on the toy brand of the same name by Mattel. It focuses on a spy and ex-soldier, Sean Walker, reconnecting with his childhood friends. However, things turn upside down due to a group searching for a nuclear weapon. The star cast features John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, and Teyonah Parris among others in key roles. In his interview with Polygon, Hargrave discussed what made Matchbox feel like the ultimate Matchbox film.
“To me, the ethos of a Matchbox movie is embracing your inner child, saying yes to adventure, and thinking ‘inside the box’ as we liked to say on set,” he said. The director continued, “This was my chance to make a “throwback” movie, something that felt like a 90’s action film, a way to tip my cap to many of the master filmmakers who paved the way and inspired me as a kid and budding storyteller.”
Also coming to Apple TV is Ted Lasso: Season 4 finale. In the previous episode, Richmond is determined to win the next match after losing to Southampton. Further, Mae gets invited to attend the away game and gives a motivational speech on the team bus.
