OnlyFangs – directed by Angelica De Alba and Paul Ragsdale (also wrote) and starring Kansas Bowling, Drew Marvick and Nina Lanee Kent
Synopsis: A budding monster hunter assists a bloodthirsty group of female vampires by creating an app that turns their victims into customers.
Taking a big ol’ bite out of that website which shall remain unnamed here (you know what I’m talking about), co-directors Angelica De Alba and Paul Ragsdale opt for a horror/comedy twist with “OnlyFangs” – a moderately entertaining jaunt around the seedier side of the internet where no-subscription fees apply.
The film centers around Scarlett (Kent) and her brood of sultry bloodsuckers moving on to a new set of digs after freeing themselves from the control of a domineering master, and it’s not long before one of them is eyeballed feasting on an innocent by a budding monster hunter (Marvick). However, instead of attempting to thwart the vampire’s reign of terror, he opts to look towards the monetary side of things and pitch a deal that will not only feed the ladies of the night (no, not THOSE ladies), but line his pockets as well, thus bringing all the wrong attention to the new business venture, and endangering the “after-lives” of the vamps themselves.
The collaborative combination of gore, laughs and some seriously beautiful actresses make “OnlyFangs” one of those guilty pleasures that should make indie-horror fans very happy, and you can tell that there was some serious love for the sub-genre when the movie was crafted, and it shows in the presentation. With embracing lines of admiration towards vampire movies of the past, and the occasional dis toward some newer products, the movie gives fans that can retain such knowledge a nude and a wink when this one plays in front of them. Characterizations were admirable – the geeks were geeky, the women were powerful, and the anti-hero sentiment was strong in essence, and when used properly it overrode the at-times plodding course of the movie’s pacing – all in all, “OnlyFangs” was fun, but just a one-and done for this daywalker.
