I immersed myself in research about the Wacol Asylum and the lives of its patients. Some really fucked up things occurred there. I wanted to capture the emotional turmoil, resilience, and strength that individuals in such institutions may have faced. It was a very challenging yet essential process to convey Keo’s depth and the impact of her past.”
Chad Elger: “That’s a powerful approach, Mya. Now, with Keo striving to lead a normal life outside the asylum’s walls, how did you navigate portraying the tension between her desire for normalcy and the haunting shadows of her past?”
Mya Lazorka: “It was a delicate balance to depict Keo’s inner conflict. I imagined the weight of her past constantly lingering, affecting her daily life and interactions. Keo’s journey to find a sense of normalcy while dealing with her traumatic experiences added layers of complexity to her character. I aimed to convey this struggle authentically, portraying her resilience while highlighting the challenges she faces, all the while trying to deal with a ghostly influence.”
