Resident Evil Wants You to Eat Popcorn Out of an Organ Transplant Bag

The collectible popcorn container arms race has been running long enough that most of us can predict the shape by now. Big plastic character head. Hinged jaw. A hole where the snacks go. Regal looked at all of that and decided to do something considerably weirder for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil.

The newly revealed collectible is not a bucket. It is a bag, and it has been designed to look like an insulated organ transport cooler, the kind of thing a courier hauls across a city at three in the morning with a very expensive human heart inside. There is a white medical cross on the front. There is labeling that reads “Handle with Care, Keep Cool, Do Not Freeze,” which is genuinely funny advice to receive about your movie theater popcorn. There is an organ transplant heart icon, because subtlety was never the assignment. It comes with a large popcorn.

The promotional images are where it stops being a clever design and starts being a small act of aggression against your appetite. Regal’s shots show a fake organ nestled into the popcorn, glistening, sitting there like it belongs. The tagline: “heart not included.” Reader, we would like it noted that nobody asked for it to be included.

Why the Organ Cooler Is Not Random Merch

Here is the part that elevates this from novelty item to actual marketing. The bag is not a generic gross-out. It comes straight out of the movie’s premise.

Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier whose delivery run drops him into the outbreak in Raccoon City. That is the setup. A guy with a job, a route, and a package that has to stay cold, walking into the worst night of his life. So the collectible is essentially Bryan’s work equipment, handed to you at the concession stand before the film starts. Whoever pitched this deserves whatever the merchandising equivalent of an Oscar is.

It also fits Cregger’s whole approach. He directs and co-wrote the film with Shay Hatten, and the cast includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser, and Johnno Wilson. The film carries an R rating for strong bloody violence, gore, and language throughout, so the bag is arguably preparing you for the tone rather than overselling it.

Resident Evil opens in theaters and IMAX on September 18, 2026. Tickets are on sale now.
