Only Murders in the Building Season 3 has had quite a bit of Broadway crossover, but there’s still more to learn about the backstage happenings of Oliver’s (Martin Short) production that ultimately resulted in Ben Glenroy’s (Paul Rudd) death, and we have your exclusive first look at the ongoing investigation.

In the sneak peek clip, above, Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez), Howard, (Michael Cyril Creighton), and Oliver return to the Goosebury Theater to find some possible answers to the ongoing mystery amid a “nerve-rattling thunderstorm.” Entering the theater, Mabel remarks, “It’s dark in here.”

The whispering silence as they creep onto the stage is interrupted when Charles exclaims loudly, “Except for the ghost light.” His lack of awareness regarding their covert actions is certainly comical, but his companions aren’t amused as they shush him, noting that he has to “keep it down.”

“I’m sorry,” Charles responds in a lower tone of voice. “I was saying the ghost light is an old theater tradition. It has to stay on at all times and it never ever goes out.” The little theater history lesson soon turns eerie as seconds later the light goes out, spooking everyone.

“Non-believer says what?” Howard says. And even Mabel admits, “That was kind of strange.”

But Oliver is less spooked, noting that it was probably K.T. (Allison Guinn) who was working on the lights from backstage. But perhaps there’s something more insidious going on? While Charles offers a hilarious explanation as to why he’s brought along a goldfish in a plastic bag, it’s moments later when something else spooky happens, but what could it be? Check out the clip, above, and don’t miss Only Murders in the Building‘s latest episode as Season 3 continues on Hulu.
