The annual tradition of Cannes head honcho Thierry Frémaux sitting at alittle table at the front of aParisian cinema and reading out his print out of titles with some soft rambling between each drop has happened for the 2026 edition of the festival. We’ve of course been combing through all the prediction articles to get asense of what might make the cut, and to be honest, aside from acouple of last-minute surprises, Frémaux stuck to the script, with new works by Paweł Pawlikowski, Pedro Almodóvar, Ira Sachs and Nicolas Winding Refn all announced. (Though Refn, shockingly, will not be presenting his lipsmacking return to feature filmmaking, Her Private Hell, in competition!).
