Despite a rabid cult following (and serving as the inspiration for every high-concept single-camera sitcom that came after it), Arrested Development never built a large enough audience over its initial run on Fox to continue for longer than three seasons. On its initial cancellation in 2006, despite rumors that the show would be moved to Showtime, creator Mitchell Hurwitz explained that Arrested Development had reached a logical endpoint after 53 episodes. However, in 2013, Netflix revived the show for a fourth season consisting of 15 more episodes, all of which take place over the same period of time, each focusing on a different character. Fans were happy to have the show back but were nonplussed by the unusual format, and in 2018 Netflix released a recut Season 4 called Arrested Development Season 4 Redux: Fateful Consequences that re-edits the initial material into 22 chronological episodes.
