The Night Driver Lands at Cineverse After Screamfest

A traveling pharmaceutical salesman stops for a stranger on a dark highway and spends the rest of the film being hunted for murders he did not commit. The Night Driver now has a North American home: Cineverse has bought the rights, weeks after the film’s world premiere opened Screamfest.

Cineverse picked the film up from VMI Worldwide. Dan Fisher, the company’s vice president of acquisitions, negotiated the deal with Jessica Russo, VMI’s chief operating officer of productions and acquisitions. “Cineverse has established itself as a leading force in the horror space,” said VMI Worldwide CEO Andre Relis, whose statement credited the buyer’s “deep understanding of the genre.”

Josh Lucas Leads, With Arquette and Milano

Josh Lucas plays Hurdis, the salesman at the center of the manhunt. David Arquette is Detective Hank Granger, who sets out to prove him innocent while the FBI builds a case that he is a serial killer working his way across the country. Alyssa Milano plays Hurdis’s wife, Cheryl. Charlotte Kirk, Eileen Dietz, Danielle Vasinova and Gina La Piana are also in the cast.

Arquette played Dewey Riley across five Scream films, from the 1996 original through the 2022 requel that killed the character off, and he is back in law enforcement here. The deeper genre credential belongs to Sean S. Cunningham, who directed the original Friday the 13th and is an executive producer here.

Who Made It

Jeremy Weiss directed, his first feature, from a screenplay by John Cork that was also published as a graphic novel. Andre Relis, Jib Polhemus and Jessica Russo produced, and BondIt Media Capital financed. The production shot in and around Las Cruces, New Mexico, and wrapped in September 2025.

The Night Driver opened Screamfest, which ran October 6 through 15 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Cineverse has not set a release date.
