Tony Todd: Actor, Producer, Father… Icon. We will miss you.

A family lost a loved one. Children lost a father. A brother, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, actor, producer, theatre extraordinaire. Beloved Actor Tony Todd left us on November 6, 2024. A day that felt a bit surreal. I have been fortunate enough in life to be able to say that I called Tony Todd a friend. He felt like family. The horror community banded together, and shared memories, and of course photos from the many roles Tony Todd has portrayed. His most important I firmly believe was father, brother, uncle, son, friend, brother-in-law, and then the acting came natural. The booming voice that could take over an entire room. I remember the first time I met Tony, he shook my hand and gave me a hug. His hand covered my hand, and probably could have covered my other hand.

Tony seemed to love to talk about theatre, and film. He had a great respect for his theatre co-stars, and each time I was able to see him in a play, he let them shine brighter than himself.  He starred in August Wilson’s Pulitzter Prize play, “Fences.” He put his entire soul into the play. Watching him was mesmerizing. He could read a phone book, and make it fascinating. He also did, August Wilson’s “How I Learned What I Learned.” He was also in “Ghost in the House.”

Tony Todd starred in over 240 Films and Television shows. He portrayed some of the most memorable characters. His voice echoed fear into Horror Fans in the 1992 film, Candyman starring Tony Todd, and Virginia Madsen. It was Based on Clive Barker‘s short story “The Forbidden”

You also say “Candyman” five times, NOT three. If you are going to make memes, and share silliness, pay the proper amount of respect to the character.

One of Tony Todd’s first films was “Sleepwalk” in 1986. Tony Todd will be missed forever. We thank you Tony Todd for sharing the craft you honed. You had passion, and you were always sharing the knowledge you have acquired in life.
