Founding As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis was arrested in Oceanside, Calif. in May of 2013 after attempting to hire a hitman to murder his estranged wife Meggan Murphy. Fox 5 reported that the individual he solicited for the crime was an undercover detective, as deputies had received a tip that the singer was looking for someone to commit the murder for him. The singer had allegedly agreed to pay $20,000 for the hit.

Lambesis initially entered a “not guilty” plea, and his lawyer blamed his steroid use for altering his behavior and thus instigating the murder-for-hire plot. His bail was set to $2 million and he was ordered to remain on house arrest as he awaited the trial.
