HBO’s brilliant series, Los Espookys, was one of my favorite current TV shows. The series focused on an ensemble of characters who form an organization of horror lovers who decide to use horror and special effects to accomplish things like tourism numbers rising, or to scare the hell out of people in an actual haunted house. Heartbreakingly, the season has been canceled after two brilliant seasons.
Co-creator Fred Armisen, added touches of his trademark humor to the series. and the character of Tati played by Ana Fabrega was one of a kind and constantly pulled from a neverending basket of absurdist comedy beats.
“We are thrilled we could deliver the unique and hilarious second season of Los Espookys to viewers finally, more than three years after the series premiere, due to pandemic delays,” HBO stated over on Deadline. “We thank Julio, Ana, and Fred for this imaginative and delightfully bizarre world they created. We are not currently planning on a third season, but we would welcome the opportunity to work with this cast and crew in the future.”
Once again, the series was destroyed by COVID fallout. Los Espooky’s season two was supposed to be filmed and live way earlier. Sadly, the series arrived too little too late with very little in the way of advertising.
“The series follows a group of friends who turn their love for horror into a peculiar business, providing horror to those who need it, in a dreamy Latin American country where the strange and eerie are just part of daily life.”
I’m hoping we get a petition going soon. I’ll sign it, y’all! Were you Los Espookys fans? We would love to hear your favorite episode/scene.
Los Espookys season one and two are now streaming on HBO Max. If you haven’t watched it really is worth your time!
