Hogwarts Legacy has all of our attention. I mean, all of it. The specs and details for the game keep rolling out little by little and each detail has us losing our minds over how cool a lot of it is. The latest tidbit of info that is blowing our minds into our socks is that you will be able to cast the Three Unforgivable Curses. These are big no-no’s in Hogwarts as you know. Dumbledor will absolutely not approve.
In Hogwarts Legacy, you are able to be as bad as you wanna be. Of course, we don’t know how using those curses will affect your character in-game especially since you are able to be either a Wizard or a Dark Witch. These three curses are the ultimate evil in the world of Harry Potter as you recall.
These curses aren’t learned at Hogwarts either, if you choose to learn them you will be forced to discover and learn them outside of the walls of Hogwarts. But, once you find them you are given the knowledge of the Killing Curse (Avada Kedavra), Cruciatus Curse (Crucio – tortures people), and Imperius Curse (Imperio – controls people).
Much like Star Wars, I think that a lot of people are going to want to roll as a villain. We will have to wait to see how using these spells affects your characters over time and how it changes things. This is another big mystery. At the moment we have more questions than we do answers. But, with the game right around the corner, we are hoping to have those answers soon.
We are interested to find out how this will affect the narrative. The films built the curses up to be monumental. While it will be cool to use them, I’m hoping there is some sort of mechanic that makes you not want to use it on the reg, due to it hurting you in another way. Maybe it takes away other abilities, or maybe you lose certain friends or something in that vein.
I have seen these spells cast in the game and the result is extremely dark. Writhing in pain and screaming comes with the brutal territory of the Crucio curse. The team at Avalanche really does make you feel that pain when that spell is cast. This game is going to let you be as evil as you want to be and I can’t wait to test those boundaries.
Are you excited to use the three unforgivable curses? Do you plan on playing the game as evil? Or do you plan on going with the lighter path? Let us know in the comments section.
Hogwarts Legacy arrives on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows beginning February 10.
