Can you smell that? It’s summer and fish. Both go hand in hand at the cinema during the hot weather, especially when that fish is a shark. Just ask Jason Statham. But The Meg 2: The Trench isn’t the only shark movie of 2023.
Dead By Dawn: Australian Horror Film News recently posted a reminder on their Facebook page about a new shark movie, which is also a disaster movie from the executive producers of 47 Meters Down. Now before you guffaw at this latest attempt at Jaws, take a look at who is directing it.
Claudio Fäh is one of those directors who may have never got to shoot his shot. Known for taking on sequels to popular movies, Fäh gained notoriety for doing follow-ups to Hollow Man, Sniper, and Starship Troopers.
Sniper Reloaded is his most popular film and was applauded for bringing the franchise back to its thrilling roots. It is safe to say anything could happen in a movie where a shark stalks a submerged airplane filled with passengers, but with 47 Meters Down producers willing to commit to the concept, it might be better than we think.
Will Clarke is one of the producers of this movie. He is the guy behind Attack the Block, Guns Akimbo, and The Girl With All the Gifts. The writer is Andy Mayson who also produced the latter two movies as well as Let Me In (2010).
“No Way Up is a high concept combination of disaster movie and survival thriller, as characters from very different backgrounds are thrown together when the plane they’re travelling on crashes into the Pacific Ocean.
The stricken airliner comes to rest perilously close to the edge of a bottomless ravine with the surviving passengers and crew trapped in an air pocket. With their air supply rapidly running out, a nightmare fight for survival ensues as dangers from all sides hone-in on them.”
There are no details on when or where this film will release, but it is in post-production so expect it sometime this year. We will keep you updated.
