A festival circuit success story is making waves on the Netflix charts today. The sci-fi horror picture It’s What’s Inside sits as the most-watched horror film on the platform today and claims the 5th place slot overall.

It’s What’s Inside premiered at Sundance this past January and a bidding war ensued almost immediately. Netflix bought the film for a whopping $17 million within roughly 24 hours of the screening. Considering the picture was made for around $2.5 million, that is a resounding success by any measure.

What’s perhaps even more impressive is that It’s What’s Inside marks writer/director Greg Jardin’s feature film debut. Talk about coming out of the gate swinging.

Jardin told THR that he had fairly low expectations going into Sundance, saying: “I just hope someone buys it for $2.5 million, so I can say, as a director, that I made a movie that did not lose money.”

Not only can Jardin safely say that his film didn’t lose money, he can also brag that he and his team negotiated one of the biggest festival acquisitions in recent memory. That’s something to be proud of.

I haven’t had the chance to check out It’s What’s Inside yet. But I am really eager to dig in and see what all the commotion is about. If all the hoopla has you curious to seek the film out, you can head over to Netflix and check it out at your leisure.

What have critics been saying about this buzzy Netflix original film?

Critics have been mostly positive with their responses thus far. In fact, the flick is already ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes, with a critical rating of 79%. The audience score (the Popcornmeter) is also a favorable 70%. So, it’s not just critics who are connecting with this feature.

The picture features a cast of up-and-comers, including Brittany O’Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Nina Bloomgarden, and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

The proceedings play out like this:

A pre-wedding reunion descends into a psychological nightmare for a group of college friends when a surprise guest arrives with a mysterious suitcase that starts to tear the group apart.

That’s all we have for you at present. Stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future for more updates on which films are owning the streaming charts. Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter (don’t you dare call it X) so you’re always the first to know what’s new in the wild world of genre cinema.
