Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of content around activewear, from the theory that ‘matching set girlies’ don’t get tired to thrifting Y2K athletic wear and an emphasis on nonrestrictive workout wear.

I’ve taken this shift in algorithm as my sign to get moving. I commute into the city, so don’t get me wrong, I do a lot of walking, but I’ve missed having a dedicated space for working out. So, I decided to sign up for a Pilates membership. Quickly into this new journey, I realized my exercise drawer was lacking. So, I went on a deep dive into the best leggings brands. My pick: Adanola Ultimate Legging

How I tested: Reformer Pilates class.

My review: If you’re a Kendall Jenner fan, then you’ve probably heard of Adanola. If not, let me give you a quick breakdown. Adanola is a British-based activewear brand that specializes in high-quality, high-functional everyday essentials. Loved by celebs like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kaia Gerber, and Jenner for its expensive look (did I mention they are under $70) and cool-girl appeal, it’s clear why after one day of wear.

I wore them with the Seamless Zip-Up (another fan-favorite) and immediately felt so chic. I finally understood the hype around the matching workout set. I felt unstoppable. Soft to the touch, these high-waisted leggings moved with me throughout class, whether on the reformer or off. I appreciate the lightweight design and the opaque coverage. These aren’t leggings restricted to the gym; they can easily be styled for a post-Pilates coffee run with sneakers and a track jacket or for Jenner with a pair of The Row flats and a leather carryall.

My pick: Vuori AllTheFeels Legging

How I tested: Vinyasa yoga class

My review: When I am in a yoga class, I do not like wearing heavy-compression leggings. I want to feel supported, never restricted. That’s why I was excited to try Vuori’s lightweight support. The first thing I noticed when testing out the leggings was how soft they felt; they are made from Vuori’s own BlissBlend material, which is made from 75% recycled fabrics. I was grateful for the 4-way stretch when going through my flow. If you’re like me and like to shop by activity, Vuori curates a list of the best pieces for different activities. Colors: Eleven. I’m wearing Eggshell Blue. With lighter, more pastel leggings, I always struggle finding the right undergarment to wear with them. Through lots of trial and error, I found that a seamless thong works best for that no-show look. This is certainly something to consider when deciding on what color leggings to purchase.

Sizing tip: These are designed with breathable, lightweight support. I found the leggings slightly loose. I’d be interested to see how a size XS fits. In the product description, Vuori recommends that if you are between sizes, size down. I would say the same.

My pick: FP Movement Never Better 7/8 Length Leggings

How I tested: Restorative yoga class.

My review: After a long day in the city, all I want is a relaxing workout. That is when I go to a peace and restorative yoga class where we hold poses for an extended period of time to let your body nd musles relax. For this type of practice, I prefer a softer, low-impact support. The FP Movement Never Better Collection provides exactly that. They’re made from a matte material, so I’m certain these flexible leggings will make a recurrent appearance at my yoga classes. I doubled down on stretchy activewear and paired the leggings with FP Movement’s Smooth Square Neck Cami from the Go To Collection. Back to the leggings, the high-rise silhouette was flattering, and the hidden front pocket was the perfect spot to hold my jewelry during class. Not to mention, they are under $100. How I tested: All-day errands and travel.

My review: In only a few weeks, these are already shaping up to be my most-worn leggings. From all-day errand wear to travel, the flexible construction of the On Sense Tec fabric is a dream. Yes, they are chic (especially when worn with the Studio Long-T, ideal for low-impact training). The On design team took their time crafting a pair of leggings for studio workouts like yoga and Pilates. They didn’t miss a step—a phone-sized side pocket, no front seams, and a sculpting high waist fit. Another legging is not limited to the studio; these can be worn more outside of class for a model off-duty look.

Size range: XS to XXL. I’m wear a size S.

Inseam: 23″

Colors: Six. I’m wearing Black.

Sizing tip: True to size. I found the close fit incredibly flexible and the high waist supportive.

My pick: ALO 7/8 High-Waist Airlift Legging, $134

How I tested: Soto Method class with Blue Nile.

My review: I was invited by Blue Nile to take my first-ever Soto Method class, and let me tell you, there was no other pair of leggings I would wear than the ALO 7/8 High-Waist Airlift. Those three-pound weights seem innocent at first, but after a few rounds, my biceps were screaming. The compressive fit was exactly what I needed for this high-intensity workout.

I’ve tested out both the leggings in Black and Light Provence Blue. Black is a traditional legging color that works well for both studio classes and errands, but the light blue is such a fun alternative. Keep in mind what I’ve said about lighter colors; you’ll want to find the right kind of undergarment. ALO is another Kendall Jenner favorite, and I have to say there’s a reason. The quality is visible in the construction, feel, and wear. I styled them with the Ribbed Prosper Tank and the Cropped Accolade Crewneck.

How I tested: Reformer Pilates class.

My review: When anyone mentions leggings, one of the first brands that comes to mind is Old Navy. Only $40, with a good chance you’ll find them on sale, these are a must, in my opinion, when it comes to activewear. The look is on par with that of any celeb-backed brand. At first thought, you might not think Old Navy and activewear, but yes. Even our own L.A. It girl, ChiChi Offor, reviewed the activewear and was in awe of the collection, noting, “There was such a robust selection of items, including but not limited to leggings, jackets, tops, sweats, and so much more. On top of that, just about every style I clicked into was available in sizes XXS up to a 4X. Yes, you heard that correctly: The plus-size options were definitely there, along with tall and petite-size items.”

More on my pick. The compression the leggings give is supportive without being restrictive, the sturdy fabrication not only looks luxe, but feels it, and the deep side pockets were a bonus.
