Bruce Springsteen shared the stage with Dropkick Murphys for the latter’s anthem “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” at the “Music America: The Songs that Shaped Us” concert at Monmouth University’s OceanFirst Bank Center in New Jersey on Thursday night, June 4th.
Both acts were on the bill for the show celebrating 250 years of American music, and came together for “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” with Dropkick Murphys’ Ken Casey handling lead vocals, and Springsteen playing guitar and providing backing vocals.

Casey dedicated the performance to the family of Woody Guthrie. The lyrics to the song were taken from words written by the folk icon that were discovered by Casey while he was going through Guthrie’s archives.

Springsteen also performed a couple more Woody Guthrie songs at the concert, including Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos) with Roseanne Cash, and “This Land Is Your Land” with Kenny Chesney.
Dropkick Murphys also stuck around to perform “American Land” with Springsteen, while the set ended with the Boss playing “When the Saints Go Marching In” with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
