Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has broken his silence after separating from wife Elle Evans following six years of marriage.
“It’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is,” Bellamy, 48, told The i Paper in a profile published Friday, June 26. “It was a set of really unexpected circumstances. It’s the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life.”
He continued, “It threw me off, and I had to prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home.”
Bellamy and Evans, 36, had been married since 2019. The pair, who share two children, never previously addressed their separation.

For Bellamy, he channeled his emotions into Muse’s upcoming album, The Wow! Signal.
“It was just, ‘Boom.’ It would just pour out of me,” he recalled of his songwriting process. “It might have been the easiest album for me to make because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me.”
While Bellamy wrote The Wow! Signal amidst “in the depths of this life-changing experience,” he has since moved on. Even still, it can be difficult to listen to the emotionally charged songs.
“‘Shimmering Scars’ is tricky,” he acknowledged. “I think ‘Space Debris’ is one of my most personal tunes, but it’s not all darkness. [‘Nightshift Superstar’ is about] how me and my ex used to go to Burning Man and just dance all night long. The whole album isn’t just whining.”
Prior to his relationship with Evans, Bellamy was previously engaged to actress Kate Hudson, with whom he shares 14-year-old son Bingham. (Hudson, 47, also shares son Ryder, 22, with Chris Robinson, and daughter Rani, 7, with longtime partner Danny Fujikawa.)

“We’re so close,” Hudson said on a 2025 episode of the “How to Fail” podcast, addressing her coparenting dynamic with Bellamy. “I love him, his wife, his family, the kids. Our kids are so close. Rani and his little girl, Lovella, they’re so close.”
She continued at the time, “We weren’t right for each other and we tried really, really, really hard and instead of blaming or creating the argument or creating the problem, it was just like, ‘I don’t want to keep going down this path.’ It’s very easy for me because I’m an Aries and I like new things and I have the means to take care of my kids by myself but I want to find the right person, the right fit and sometimes you’re just not.”
