Infirmary Trailer: Shudders Bodycam Horror Lands Oct. 2

Shudder has released the trailer for Infirmary, and it is built almost entirely out of a missing man’s bodycam. The found footage feature premieres on the platform Friday, October 2.

The setup is lean enough to fit on a case file. A security guard vanished on his first night at an old psychiatric hospital in 2023. His bodycam footage survived. What is on it has not been explained.

What the Cut Actually Shows

The trailer keeps its discipline. Everything the viewer sees comes through a bodycam or a fixed security camera, which means the frame is chest height, the light source is strapped to the person carrying it, and the camera looks where a frightened man looks rather than where a cinematographer would. That last part is the whole trick of the subgenre, and it is the part most found footage films quietly cheat on.

What it withholds is the thing itself. There are corridors, a vanishing colleague, a door that should not be open. There is no clean look at whatever is doing this. For a trailer arriving three weeks out from release, that is restraint most distributors do not have the nerve for.

Who Made It

Nicholas Pineda directs, from a screenplay by Katy Krauland. The two produced it together under Amalgam Films. It is Pineda’s first feature, and he arrives with a design background rather than a horror one, which shows in a film whose entire aesthetic argument is about what a cheap camera can and cannot resolve in the dark.

Paul Syre plays Edward, a former Marine taking the night shift for, as he puts it, something to keep him occupied. Mark Anthony Williams is Lester, the veteran guard who disappears partway through the shift. Danielle Kennedy plays Ms. Downey. The film runs 85 minutes.

The Long Way to a Streaming Slot

Infirmary did not appear from nowhere. It world premiered at Dances With Films New York on January 16, which means it spent most of a year on the circuit before Shudder picked it up. Elements of Madness, reviewing it out of that festival, called it a powerful debut that masterfully wields found footage to a terrifying degree. That pull quote now sits on the film’s own site, which tells you how the sales campaign went.

A festival-circuit indie landing a Shudder date in the first week of October is not a consolation prize. It is the slot the platform reserves for films it expects people to talk about, and it drops Infirmary into the middle of Shudder’s four-month Season of Screams alongside titles like Hallowarrior.
