Black Mandala is proud to present A MOTHER’S RECALL, a haunting psychological horror film that fuses intimate character drama with chilling supernatural terror. Directed and co-written by Mauro Iván Ojeda, whose previous feature La Funeraria attracted international critical attention, the film delivers an unsettling and emotionally charged descent into fear, trauma, and the unseen forces that can shape a family from within.
With a confident and atmospheric directorial approach, Ojeda builds a world where the familiar turns deeply sinister and the safety of home begins to collapse under the weight of something dark and inhuman. A MOTHER’S RECALL balances slow-burning dread with striking horror imagery, creating a disturbing and immersive experience in which every shadow, sound, and silence carries a sense of menace. The film’s visual language is both elegant and unsettling, grounding its supernatural terror in a deeply human emotional reality.
At the center of the story is Genaro, a teenage orphan who is taken in by what appears to be a new family and a chance at belonging. But as he settles into his new home, he begins to feel that something is profoundly wrong. As he grows closer to his troubled sister Nuria, the two uncover a dark and malevolent force lurking within the house. Bound together by fear, grief, and the search for truth, they must face the sinister presence that feeds on their pain and threatens to consume them all.
Driven by a strong young cast and a tightly constructed, character-focused screenplay, A MOTHER’S RECALL explores universal fears of abandonment, identity, and the desperate need for connection, while delivering the kind of creeping supernatural horror that lingers long after the final frame.
Dark, emotional, and deeply unsettling, A MOTHER’S RECALL stands as a powerful new entry in contemporary Latin American genre cinema and another striking work from Mauro Iván Ojeda.
