Dick made the announcement himself, but he has not revealed when or how he became intoxicated. He has a long, public history of substance abuse and legal troubles. Online users created two main outcomes which demonstrated their critical responses through severe criticism and content, which included darkly humorous content. The main comment established the main point of the conversation: “Those holes were always there, Andy.” The users who started this thread added two more statements, which they wrote as “And, I suspect, in his heart as well” and “Or rather, where his heart should be.” Another user quipped, “5 to 7 brain holes, yet all we see is one asshole.”
Many comments reflected a deep-seated resentment tied to Dick’s past. The 1998 murder-suicide of Phil Hartman and his wife Brynn became the main topic which people discussed throughout the entire conversation. Multiple users reiterated the widely reported story that Andy Dick gave cocaine to Brynn Hartman at a party, triggering her relapse. One user commented that without Andy Dick, Phil Hartman would still be alive. The incident led to Jon Lovitz and Dick fighting each other, according to multiple witnesses who described the physical altercation.
