Blue Beetle Gets Fiery Return News From Xolo Maridueña

Xolo Maridueña has teased what fans can expect from his DC superhero Blue Beetle’s upcoming appearance, and the actor is not holding back on his excitement. Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle, already has a confirmed spot in James Gunn’s DC Universe through the upcoming Man of Tomorrow, and now Maridueña has offered fans a preview of the energy he’s bringing to the role.

Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle is coming back with ‘fire’

Speaking with ScreenRant, the actor addressed how it feels to step back into a character that has meant so much to him personally, and his answer suggests this return will be anything but low-key. As Maridueña quipped, “I feel tremendously humbled that what we created outside of what is now the DCU has been embraced by James Gunn and the rest of the people over at DC. And all I can say is that we’re coming back with fire. I can’t wait.”

What makes Maridueña’s enthusiasm notable is the road Blue Beetle has traveled to get here. The character’s origin film was greenlit and shot before Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins at DC Studios, meaning Jaime Reyes started life as a project sitting outside whatever shared universe would eventually take shape. That made his survival into the new DCU far from a given.

With Blue Beetle’s involvement in Man of Tomorrow already locked in, Maridueña’s remarks shift the conversation from whether Jaime Reyes returns to how he returns. Describing the comeback as fiery suggests a more assertive, perhaps more central role for the character than a brief supporting turn.

For a fanbase that has stayed invested in Jaime Reyes since his solo debut, Maridueña’s comments offer a reassuring signal: the character’s next chapter is being built with intention inside Gunn’s evolving DC Universe.

Man of Tomorrow is releasing on July 9, 2027.
