What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Murder at North Pond?
I’ve always wanted to write a series that takes place on an island, a place that was covered with flora, fauna, and quirky inhabitants. My inspiration came from a place off the coast of Rhode Island called Block Island I discovered during my research. I’ve never been there though I would love to visit in person. It looks fabulous.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Murder at North Pond, what would they be?
I think a theme song for Anna St. James, the main female character, might be “Tougher than the Rest” by Bruce Springsteen because she is pretty much the heart and soul of the island.
I think the main male character, Nathaniel, would be chugging along to Tom Petty’s Free Fallin’ because when he arrives at the island his life is in a bit of a freefall.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love to read romances and mystery, and if the two are mixed then all the better! I’m a big fan of historical settings as well.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I’m currently reading Tana French’s “The Searcher” and I have Jane Harper’s “The Lost Man” on standby.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I loved writing the scene where Anna meets her newest boarder Nathaniel for the first time. Scenes that introduce new characters are always my favorite.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I have an adorable, cozy writer’s cottage in my backyard. My dogs always join me, unless it’s snowing then they just sit at the door and wave me on.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
I’m very much a ‘kindness should rule the world’ type of gal.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
The most any author can hope for is that a reader comes away feeling entertained, transported and thoroughly satisfied.
