What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Daring Adventures of Honoria Porter?
Honoria Porter is a young woman in the 1850s who wants to travel the world and experience life. She’s in the process of the second, when she is caught kissing a duke in an alcove at a ball. Her mother finds her and insists on marriage. Honoria has other ideas, which involves her running away from home and traveling.
Her travels embroil her in different mysteries that she is good at solving. Each chapter starts out like a diary entry from Honoria, then goes into a first person POV fiction. I was inspired by Around the World in 80 Days and the show Miss Fisher Mysteries. I wanted a woman ahead of her time to explore the world, have dalliance without regret or guilt, and live life to its fullest. This is a prequel to my Ladies of WACK series, Book one introduces Honoria 20 years after the events in this book.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Daring Adventures of Honoria Porter, what would they be?
Man by Taylor Swift, Blank Space by Taylor Swift, and something by Lizzo.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Romance. No I love writing mysteries, I do read them as well but not as often as I read romance.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
The newest book by Darynda Jones, Goddess of the Broken by my friend Jamie Dalton.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
In the second part I really liked writing the scene where Honoria put her wealthy friend in her place for not treating Honoria’s companion like an equal.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I don’t really think so. I do have a bunch of stones that help with creativity near me most of the time.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
You have to work hard to make your dreams come true.
