MONTH OF January

Post-holiday slowdown? Not a chance! January starts full-strength for you, Capricorn, and it won’t let up anytime soon. Slot a few disco naps into your calendar and roll with it! While you’ll have to weather the annoyance of Venus retrograde in your sign until January 29 (and maybe trim a few people off your contact list), the January 2 Capricorn new moon puts you in goal-getter mode before your NYE hangover is fully cleared. When energizer Mars swings into Capricorn on January 24, you’ll be hyped to get your 2022 plans underway!

Start plotting but go slow on the execution since Mercury, the planet of technology, travel and communication, will be retrograde from January 14 to February 3. Besides, you’ll have a ton of fresh creative inspiration in the second half of January, when the karmic north node enters Taurus and your passionate fifth house—its first visit since 2004!

With expansive Jupiter now in Pisces and your social third house until May, kindred spirits and synergistic people will pop up from unexpected places. Make room at your metaphorical conference table for some new perspectives and outside opinions. While you don’t want to let just anyone chime in, someone else’s way might revolutionize a project that’s been stuck. When the Sun moves into Aquarius on January 19, you could start turning some of your birthday wishes and ideas into a tangible action plan.

Capricorn rules the skies: Sun, new moon, Venus (retrograde) and Mars

Out with the old and in with the new? There’s a revolving door of Capricorn planets this month, and this posse is determined to remix life as you know it. Not only is the Sun in your sign (as per usual) until January 19, but the year begins lightning-fast with a January 2 Capricorn new moon. Consider it a “bonus” New Year’s Day since this lunar event always acts as a reboot.

Ready for your closeup? This new moon is a supermoon, and it will form a fortuitous trine (120-angle) to irreverent Uranus, the planet of change and innovation. Uranus is in Taurus and your fifth house of fame, love and passionate self-expression. Talk about a cosmic coming-out party!

But watch how full-on you go, Capricorn because (womp womp) romantic and aesthetic Venus is retrograde in Capricorn until January 29, which can foil any grand debuts. Whether you’re trying out a new “lewk” or announcing a big project, your marketing efforts could fall flat with gracious Venus gone rogue. Paired with communicator Mercury’s retrograde backspin from January 14 to February 3, you might be better off attempting a “soft launch” and gathering feedback. Incorporate it all into a much bigger unveiling next month.

A day for introspection and self-improvement arrives at the January 16 annual Sun-Pluto conjunction. When the self-focused Sun and deep-diving Pluto unite in Capricorn, you may get the gift of being able to see yourself through other people’s eyes. Call it the curse of being human, but we are our own biggest blind spots. Today, you could have an aha moment of “Ohhhh, THAT’S what they’ve been complaining about for all these years.” No need to beat yourself up, Capricorn—we can all be pills in our own special ways. Take it in, make amends and forgive yourself. New year, new day, new you.

Besides, you won’t want to keep bad habits and practices around for long. On January 24, energizer Mars will blaze into your sign for its once-every-two-years visit, giving you courage, confidence and charisma. Yes, you’ll have to weather another week or so of Venus and Mercury retrograde, but since Mars is here until March 6, you’ll soon be able to show the world how amazing you are—and get the affirmative reclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” sponse you deserve! Mars happens to be “exalted” in Capricorn, so while in one of its favorite signs (yours!), the red planet will work overtime to make sure the spotlight shines on your personal projects.

Mercury turns retrograde from January 14 to February 3

From January 14 tclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” o February 3, Mercury—the planet of communication, technology and travel—will turn retrograde, splitting its time between Aquarius and Capricorn. Yep, you’re in the hot seat, so save any splashy debuts for next month if you can.

Until January 25, Mercury will be retrograde in Aquarius, foiling your finances and creating irksome plot twists at work. As Mercury backspins through your productive and profit-centered second house, you may need to get clear about fuzzy areas in your budget. If a case of “scope creep” has turned a project into a costly time-suck, get real. Simplify your grand plans and scale back anything that’s gotten unmanageable. Back up all your most important data, especially at the office, and give your resume a refresh.

Mercury retrograde is a great time to reflect and review—a salary renegotiation or a performance check-in could give you a helpful roadmap for where to put your energy. Did an exciting endeavor end up on the back burner last year or get shelved during the height of the pandemic? Turn up the heat and give it another look—the timing might be right now.

Pay close attention to your finances since mischievous Mercury could play fast and loose with your budget. Check your bank and credit card statements for errors. This signal-scrambling transit is famous for mistaken charges. While you’re at it, strengthen passwords to guard against identity theft. Looking for a side hustle? Catch up with an old colleague over coffee or DMs—they could have a promising opportunity for you. Retrogrades can bring helpful people and “messengers” back from the past.

Have you lapsed into a bad habit recently? This Mercury retrograde cycle can help you find the people or groups to kick that vice. The year has been heavy and emotional for many Aquarians, so it’s only natural that you might be self-soothing with creature comforts. But if you’ve grown dependent or it’s interfering with your lifestyle, this is a perfect time to get the support you need.

When Mercury reverses into Capricorn on January 25, it will join the already-retrograde Venus in your sign. Wave the white flag, Sea Goat: If you try to launch something now, you’ll be swimming upstream. Not that you’re afraid of a challenge, but with the deck this stacked against you, why “work harder, not smarter”? Take a little break and recharge, then come back swinging next month!

The Cancer full moon on January 17 spotlights relationships

Change is in the air! This January 17, the first full moon of 2022 lands in Cancer and your committed-relationships house, which could bring a major turning point to a business or romantic alliance. With the spotlight on your closest ties, you’ll get clarity about which ones you want to nurture in 2022. Take inventory of where the give-and-take might be out of balance. Even the best partnerships need care and feeding. Set some adventurous and inspiring shared goals for the year to put the wind back in BOTH your sails.

Make sure to dig deep instead of coming up with anything superficial. This full moon will sit opposite Pluto in Capricorn, a prompt to get ultra-real about what you require for your personal satisfaction. You might be famous for saying, “I’m good” and waving away your needs. But at this full moon, being accommodating at your own expense will come back to bite you. If you’ve been complaining about you-know-who again, take a break and look inward. Is the thing you say is bothering you REALLY the problem? Or is there something you might be projecting onto this person that has nothing to do with them but is touching a longtime nerve?

It’s worth taking the time to suss that out now. The future of your bond may depend on it! And you’ll avoid venting on an unsuspecting soul who has no idea their vocal cadence sounds like your father’s or that you’re really NOT okay with the way they stack plates in the dishwasher. Find the courage to be honest now, and you’ll reap the benefits later.

The north node enters Taurus on January 18

Drama or detachment? Love or friendship? From January 18, 2022, until July 17, 2023, the lunar nodes will move to the Taurus/Scorpio axis, helping you choose what to put your whole heart into and when it’s time to take a big step back.

With the destiny-driven north node in Taurus and your passionate fifth house, this is YOUR time to unapologetically claim the spotlight and have your star turn. You don’t always have to share the glory or take one for the team, Capricorn. Over the next 18 months, you could become hyper-aware of the diva types in your life and the negative impact they have. Distance yourself from friends who compete or try to bring you down. At the very least, see if you can shift these unhealthy dynamics by being more vocal about your needs. You can do it in a playful but direct way, Capricorn—and since Taurus rules the throat, this nodal phase is a time for all of us to learn how to speak our truth!

The north node only visits Taurus every 18.5 years; it was last here from April 15, 2003 to December 26, 2004. If you can remember back to that time, you may see repeating themes arise again. From shifting alliances to a passionate love affair to attracting fame, this nodal cycle will teach you important lessons about claiming the spotlight and choosing your collaborators wisely.

And…Uranus turns direct in Taurus on January 18

Venus retrograde, step aside! It’s getting freaky and frisky at the Capricorn Compound. On January 18, radical Uranus ends a five-month retrograde in Taurus, which might send your love life in an unexpected new direction. Single Caps could attract an admirer, but don’t rush to get too committed to the first person who comes along—especially if it’s a “blast from the past.” Some interesting new options could arrive before Valentine’s Day!

Tech-savvy Uranus can bring luck on the dating apps, or, if you’re kept apart by any pandemic restrictions, you can stay connected with your love interest virtually. This uptick will take on even more heat after January 24, when passionate and charismatic Mars arrives to steam up the windows, making you quite the attention grabber.

Speaking of attention, rebellious Uranus in this expressive, festive sign could bring out a little TOO much of your wild side, especially when you find yourself with drink in hand. Remember that there IS such a thing as “bad publicity,” Capricorn. Keep your ego and temper in check. Certain behaviors are more chaotic than cute, whether or not you realize it. This is a lesson that the Taurus north node is also here to teach. Channel your performance inclinations into a creative project or book a gig so there’s a proper audience and forum for people to enjoy that part of you!

Aquarius season starts on January 19

Ready for a little bit of grounding energy? On January 19, the Sun moves into Aquarius and your second house of work and money, helping you turn your big birthday-season ideas into concrete action steps. Use this productive phase to whittle down your to-do list and make headway on key pieces of your mission. That said, don’t make it all work, no play. The luxe second house rules the pleasure principle, so treat yourself as a reward for meeting one of your milestones.

Just make “quality over quantity” your mantra. You’ll still need to keep tabs on your spending while Mercury is retrograde in Aquarius until January 25. On top of that, Venus, which is associated with wealth attraction, is retrograde in Capricorn until January 29. This could tempt you to overspend if you don’t keep track of everything.

Use the rest of the month to refine your budget and trim those little expenses that all add up, from unused app subscriptions to takeout. Make it a challenge—Capricorns love one! Looking to rustle up some extra income? Retrogrades favor the past. Reach out to former clients and colleagues to see if they might have projects or a good referral.

Hang in there, Capricorn. You’ve been saddled with a bit of a challenge in the love department during the first month of 2022. That’s because romantic Venus is retrograde in Capricorn until January 29, which could make you feel out of sync with people. In matters of the heart, you might feel uncomfortable, exposed, misunderstood and generally “off.” Past insecurities can rear up, and you could be extra hard on yourself. No fun!

The silver lining is that Venus is making an extended four-month trip through your sign, one that started on November 5, 2022, and will last until March 6. So you’ll have all of February to kiss and make up—especially when the love planets, Venus and Mars, have a hot-and-heavy hookup in your sign right after Valentine’s Day.

Spicy Mars blazes into Capricorn on January 24, also staying in your sign until March 6. Get ready to reclaim your sexy swagger—and shake off those backspin blahs once Venus turns direct on January 29.

The fastest way to get here? Use the time leading up to January 24, while Mars is in Sagittarius and your twelfth house of healing and closure, to courageously address unfinished business. From heartache to old flames to childhood baggage you’re dragging into the present, January will put it all in front of you. While healing is a lifelong undertaking, becoming aware of what’s “your” issue and what’s “theirs” is one of the most important bricks in the foundation of any healthy relationship.

You’ve got a lot of big ideas swirling around, but do you have the energy to pull them off? Normally, that answer would be a resounding yes for you, Cap. But with Mars, the planet of drive, in your restful twelfth house until January 24, motivation could be in short supply. Mars has been in Sagittarius since December 13, and since then, many Capricorns have been working behind the scenes or navigating intense personal issues that have made it difficult to focus. You may have felt unsupported at work or even sabotaged by a competitive person. Or maybe you just couldn’t generate the full-bodied excitement for a project, no matter how intriguing it sounded.

That’s okay, Capricorn: Pace yourself and stay out of the workaholic fray as the year begins. Of course, that might be easier said than done since the Sun is in your sign until January 19, along with a Capricorn new (super)moon on January 2. But with Venus retrograde until January 29, any debuts could fall a little flat before February.

You’ll have the steam to start executing—or at least to get that plane on the runway—on January 24, when Mars blazes into Capricorn, jolting you into action until March 6. Now that’s more like it! By early February, you’ll be a Sea Goat on a mission, with your full power and charisma at your fingertips to make up for lost time.
