If the 2023 Met Gala brought you fashion inspiration, then you’ll be thrilled to know the 2023 Cannes Film Festival has arrived with more showstopping red carpet looks. The annual celebration of fashion and film attracts a slew of A-list celebrities dressed in glamorous attire, and this year has gotten off to a breathtaking start.
Scarlett Johansson certainly had all eyes on her on the Cannes red carpet. The acclaimed actress made an appearance at the “Asteroid City” screening on May 23, posing arm-in-arm with husband Colin Jost. For the outing, she wore a custom Prada dress that put her back tattoos on full display. The pink column gown was a gorgeous play on the visible-bra trend picking up steam in Hollywood. Styled by Kate Young, Johansson went for bold add-ons including a sparkling pair of starburst earrings and a bright red lip.
Lily-Rose Depp is one of many celebrities to grace the red carpet in Cannes, attending the “The Idol” screening on May 22 in a vintage dress from Chanel. The sparkling micro mini first appeared on the Chanel Fall 1994 runway, modeled by supermodel Christy Turlington before Depp was even born. But as the emerging style star she is, Depp brought the look back to life on Monday, adding accoutrements like a diamond bracelet layered over black sheer elbow-length gloves. To keep the spotlight on her Chanel dress, the actress wore her hair back, save for two face-framing strands. For makeup, she went for a smoldering smoky eye and a soft pink lip.
Ashley Graham also stepped onto the scene, sporting a glittering mesh micro minidress by Prada to the brand’s soirée hosted alongside Vanity Fair. Styled by Emily Evans, the 35-year-old supermodel let her black lingerie peek out from underneath the naked dress, opting for a miniature triangle-shaped pouch and silver platforms, both by Prada. Her silky brown hair was parted at the center and straightened to reveal a pair of long strand earrings that extended to her shoulders and complemented her glitter eyeshadow.
Earlier, Dua Lipa wowed at the event, stepping out with director Romain Gavras on the red carpet for the first time. Attending the “Omar la Fraise (The King of Algiers)” screening, she wore a Celine gown with four cutouts along the bodice and a slit that climbed up to her hips. She complemented the look with dangling diamond ear cuffs and a matching bracelet, while her updo kept the spotlight on her dress’s dramatic neckline. Notably though, she debuted a new set of bangs, long enough to cover half her face. Styled by Lorenzo Posocco, Lipa’s Cannes look was one of her boldest yet.
Other notable attendees at the film festival and nearby parties include Jennifer Lawrence (who walked proudly in flip-flops), Elle Fanning, Rosé, Gigi Hadid, Katie Holmes, Alessandra Ambrosio, Storm Reid, Aja Naomi King, Gemma Chan, Adriana Lima, and Naomi Campbell, all of whom hit the red carpet dressed to the nines. Last year, we saw Anne Hathaway shine in a custom Armani Privé white sequin gown and Bella Hadid in a couple of sultry, statement-making looks, so we have high hopes for this year’s array.
Ahead, see all the looks we’ve loved so far, and keep checking back for more eye-catching ensembles until the Cannes Film Festival closes on May 27. We promise the stars will bring a whole new meaning to “dress to impress.”
